My thoughts on the current Camry have been conflicted, aesthetics being heavily dependent on the trim and color (XLE Hybrid: good! XSE with body colored brow: hmmm!). But it appears my neighbor picked up this one the other day, with black accents on this crazy teal-blue-dark-metallic-green-blue-green. I think it looks good.

Also, that Audi TT appears to be flawless.

For those who need some reference:
XSE
XLE Hybrid
I have seen enough of both up close and on the roads and even rented an LE version recently. They’re all over-styled, trying too hard.

It’s hard to tell in your photo, but one thing has been bothering me, and since I’m in Japan I can’t see an answer in person: Does that crease on the rear pillar look weird without the little sun/rain shields attached to the doors/windows?
All the ones I’ve seen have the shields and the line in the pillar is clearly meant to line up with them. I keep thinking it must look weird without them.

Whoever fucked up Lexus seems to have made his/her way over to Toyota. The front ends are an abomination

It’s not white, black, silver or gray so I would at least congratulate them on that. We Oppos are at the mercy of the used car market so we don’t always have a choice but the more people who choose an actual color when buying new the more that will be available for us.

Not necessarily, depends on the segment. Especially in the midsize segment becuase for decades manufacturers went for the most safe, conservative design because they didn’t want to alienate american buyers with “Bold styling” and then in the last few years flipped the switch to make them more “dynamic! exciting! sporty!” because people were not buying them enough. But over-styling may become ugly that might actually turn off some buyers.
Even in the midsize segment there’s boring-beige even for 2019 models like the Passat and Legacy.

Yup, If I had my way I’d drive only by B lue/dark green/b urnt orange cars. Never owned one because I didn’t have the patience and/or money to get the perfect one. Some people wait a year or more to get that perfect car and even then have to drive halfway across the country. That takes dedication.

Definitely Over styled and in need of an exor cism.
Gun to my head, I’d pick the XS E over the XLE hybrid.

I’m not a fan of either front end.

If it is black/dark blue it all blends in anyway

I mean the Camry is definitely the most comfortable Uber I have been in for sure. A lot of the Prii are beat to shit and not that roomy or nice to begin with. And any of the other random junk out there is nowhere near as nice as a Camry either. And from the couple of times I have rented Camrys in the past, the power delivery is smooth and the car rides nicely. It doesnt feel like cheap junk so its a solid automobile. Incredibly boring but it does boring so well that it becomes interesting to me. I think I prefer the outlandish styling on the Lexus alternatives but the pricing gets bonkers to the Camry just makes sense.

I do like that color, I remember seeing it on the previous generation when renting. It’s a little too dark for me to ever buy, but hey it’s at least some color!
I saw a red XSE V6 the other day and thought it looked good..then I passed it and looked in the rearview. Yeah, never mind.

Since I also buy used I have learned not to be picky about my car colors. I would prefer dark blue and dark green and maybe just maybe a tribute to the General Lee, but c’est la vie. My favorite colour has always been grey and I owned a silver car.... And now it seems like a boring choice. Even gunmetal is better.

I believe that paint is called Galactic Aqua Mica, my parents have it on their R av4 Hybrid and it looks great. Being nearly black in the shade, while vibrate dark greenish blue in the sun. Does require a lot of love from the polisher though.

I think the regular and XLE Camrys are less awful than the XSE, which appears to be a clash of as many jarring shapes as possible to avoid being labelled as “boring.”

I agree though -
nice color, and in darker colors generally the Camry isn’t bad at all. Light colors, not so much.

Honestly the most comfortable Uber I’ve been in was an F-150. I have no idea how he could make any money driving that though. Had a newish 3-series that was pretty good as well (though suspiciously the driver looked nothing like person pictured in the app).

Had one of that generation as a rental a couple of weeks ago. It was 2 years old and already had 45k miles. That thing felt and sounded like a Vegas taxi...rattles and thunks and weird smells. Still chugged along flawlessly and returned ~34 MPG over 1000 miles of mostly highway driving.

Volkswagen, Mazda, and Subaru kind of buck the trend - also Ford’s increasingly diminishing line of passenger cars, and maybe Kia.

I don’t like that the XSE’s grille doesn't seem to fit the opening its installed into, like they took a part from a totally different car and zip tied it in there.
